Today was Piermario Morosini’s funeral. The Livorno midfielder died tragically five days ago on the pitch of unknown causes with the autopsy proving inconclusive. But it is likely he suffered from sudden cardiac arrest that claimed the lives of Marc Vivien Foe, Miklos Feher, Antonio Puerta, Dani Jarque, and others before him.
Most recently, Fabrice Muamba’s collapse on the pitch a month ago was a consequence of sudden cardiac arrest. The Bolton midfielder is making a strong recovery.
Morosini’s story is a story of improbable odds, noble acts, and personal grief. It makes his death even more poignant. RIP to a brave son.
