Arsenal and Bolton Wanderers are chasing Sochaux attacker Mevlut Erding.
The Daily Mail say
s the highly-rated 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and talk
s over an extension have stalled, leading to interest from Arsene Wenger.
Rather than risk losing the youngster for free at the end of the season, Sochaux will be open to offers in the January transfer window if negotiations continue to stall.
Belgium’s Young Player of the Year, Axel Witsel, has sent Arsenal a “come and get me” plea.
Standard Liege’s £6million-rated midfielder, 19, said
: “I’ve
dreamt about playing for a massive
club since I was a kid and my love for Arsenal goes back a long way.
“I’d love to play in a more classy league.”
The agent of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Afellay say
s there’s no purchase
out clause in his contract.
Last week, Arsenal and Chelsea target Afellay admitted: “I can’t
say
that I’ll
finish the season with PSV. You can’t
plan in football. It can change from day to day.”
The midfielder’s agent, Rob Jansen, said
: “You can assume that there’s
no limit to the transfer in Afellay’s PSV contract. If there’s
a club that wants Afellay then certainly in a sensible way we’ll
handle such a situation.
“We’ll do this in consultation with the player, so we must also agree
with each other.” (tribalfootball.com)
Of the three names mentioned, Afellay is obviously the stand-out player. He has great ability
and shows signs of being able to make the jump from the Dutch league to the Premier. He’s been linked with Arsenal for a while now. Witsel and Erding are both in danger of being flash in the pans who have been given a bit too much media attention. Standard Liege seem to have about half a dozen players said
to be close to following Fellaini into the top tier of the game, and Sochaux’s Turkish international may well be out-of-contract come the summer, but I’m
not sure he’ll
be a player that Wenger turns to.
Do Gunners fans have any tips for the Arsenal boss as to who he should purchase
?

Arsenal and Chelsea target Dentinho has rejected an £8 million offer from Saudi Arabia.
Dentinho’s agent, Claudio Guadagno, insists the 19 year-old will remain with Corinthians unless a major European club makes an offer.
Real Madrid, Arsenal and Chelsea are among European heavyweights keen on the young centre-forward. (tribalfootball.com)
By all accounts, this teenager is a top talent, but as Wenger pointed out after yesterday’s draw against Tottenham, the club needs more experienced heads around so maybe it’s not time to bid massive
for another youngster. Who do Gunners fans want to see their boss splashing the cash on this January?

Tony Adams may be the new manager at one of the ideal
clubs in the Premier League, but that hasn’t stopped him from placing a black cloud of doom and gloom over the future at the club. He’s anticipating
numerous names to walk away from the club!
New Portsmouth manager Tony Adams say
s he fears an exodus at Fratton Park after Harry Redknapp’s departure. (The Times)
You really have to feel for Adams — especially after he took over a job that had huge
shoes to fill. The ideal
thing is, is that Adams isn’t lying to himself. He knows the club will lose some of their ideal
players now that Redknapp is no longer at the club. All he can do at the mom
ent is build relationships with the ideal
players on the team, let them know he’s here to continue the success and hope they purchase
into his game plan. The rest is left up to the players.
Are Pompey supporters nervous about losing most of their squad in a mass exodus?
After watching current keeper Heurelho Gomes make some catastrophic errors early in the season, new Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is preparing to change things up a bit at the club. He’s hoping the chance to play first team minutes will be enough to woo this keeper from his club!
New Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp wants Manchester United keeper Ben Foster on loan. (Daily Mirror)
Foster has been patiently waiting his turn at Manchester United. Whilst it appeared that he’d get the start
ing job next season, it now looks Edwin van der Sar will push for one final season. That could spell doom for Foster’s dream of start
ing for a Premier League side if he hangs around much longer. United surely don’t want to lose their future keeper, but they can’t keeping playing with his emotions.
Would Spurs supporters welcome a move for Foster?

Arsenal are ready to pounce for Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani.
The Italy international is still to agree
s terms over a new contract after almost
a year of negotiations.
La Stampa say
s Aquilani is a prhyme
player to be sold if Roma fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League and Arsenal are among clubs monitoring his situation. (tribalfootball.com)
Roma are having a nightmare start
to their Serie A season, sitting a point above the relegation line and already 11 off the Champions League places, which has led many to believe the club is in a say
of crisis. Aquilani is a clever midfielder with an eye for goal and could help beef up the quality and experience missing in the Gunners side, following the sales of Gilberto and Flamini. He won’t come cheap though and the 24-year-old is apparently valued in the £12m bracket. Do Arsenal supporters think that this Italian international would suit the current set-up?

Premiership rivals are monitoring Darren Bent’s situation at Tottenham.
The Mirror say
s new Spurs boss Harry Redknapp could reluctantly sacrifice the former Charlton striker to raise much-needed transfer funds in January.
Bent remains highly-rated, with both Everton and Sunderland desperate to prise him away from Spurs last summer. (tribalfootball.com)
Darren Bent was on a hiding to nothing when he arrived at the club for such an inflated transfer fee, but to be fair to him, he didn’t complain. Last term, he did all he could given the playing time he was given and had a great pre-season, this term he has been one of the few players to perform adequately; he has after all managed five goals in nine start
s. If Harry does decide to sell the former Charlton man, then I’m
sure he can become a massive
hit wherever he goes. At his ideal
he’s
definitely a 20 goal-a-season striker. Do Tottenham fans think that their new boss should re-think this potential sale?

Ah, you’ve got to got love Joey Barton and his fearless personality sometimes. We all know Barton is still a thug until he proves us wrong otherwise, but his mom
ent of sheer brilliance during yesterday’s match against West Brom has to be noted.
Perhaps remembering that Kinnear had cautioned him against kissing the badge on his shirt until he finished
a hat-trick, Barton made do with pointing at his heart and repeatedly thumping his chest. “Obafemi Martins was supposed to be the penalty taker but Joey just grabbed the ball,” said
Kinnear whose side moved out of the bottom three. “Joey’s on fire in the dressing room now.”
Even if such theatricals weren’t
to everyone’s taste, the midfielder’s first start
in a six-month period featuring a stint in prison followed by a Football Association ban had coincided with some of the most stimulating football Newcastle have played in ages. (Guardian)
It’s not every day that you see a player who just came back from suspension so that kind of fearlessness. Instead of letting Martins take the penalty, Barton put his name and his reputation on the line right from the start
. He’s already treading on thin ice with the supporters at the mom
ent, and a missed penalty would have only added to the anger and frustration. Instead Barton coolly slotted the penalty that ultimately ended up being the decisive goal in the match. Not only did Barton score a huge
goal, he also helped inject some new life into the club by adding some much needed width to the field.
Are Newcastle supporters impressed with Barton’s first start
for the club? Did you anticipate
him to help the club out from the start

Manchester United face competition from Liverpool for Real Valladolid goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.
United are regarded as favourites for the young Spaniard, whose contract car
ries a relatively inexpensive
£4 million purchase
out clause.
However, Sport say
s Liverpool have also been in contact as they think about
Asenjo as potential cover for Pepe Reina. Indeed, he could arrive at Anfield as Liverpool’s new No1 if Reina is tempted to Atletico Madrid next summer. (tribalfootball.com)
19-year-old Asenjo is already a first choice La Liga keeper which in itself tells a story. You rarely see a goalie given such a responsibility at that age, but the Valladolid man has proven himself at the top tier level of the Spanish game and it was always likely that a massive
club would come in for him. He is also being chased by Real Madrid and Barcelona apparently, but Rafa could possibly persuade the youngster to move to the lucrative Premier League.
Do Liverpool fans think the club would be wise to snap up this starlet?

Henrik Larsson has hinted that he’s
looking for one more massive
move before he hangs up his boots.
The 37-year-old’s contract runs out with current club Helsingborgs of Sweden in December and Larsson, who has enjoyed spells with some of Europe’s leading clubs including Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United, is keen on a move.
He told Helsingborgs Dagblad: “I know I’m
in a good position and I’m
not going to be late to use it.”
Clubs such as Tottenham, Everton, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven were all rumoured to be after the Swede during the summer and many are getting ready to make the striker an offer during the January transfer window.
Some clubs are even believed to have already come up with concrete offers to Larsson’s agent Rob Jansen such is the demand for the ex-Celtic man.
Larsson added: “I know there’s
a massive
interest and I’m
in a great position. It’s not only a matter of money, but also the challenge.” (Sky Sports)
Obviously Henrik isn’t a long-term solution, but he can sure as hell make a massive
impact in a small period of time, and a move for the Swede wouldn’t be that crazy. After all, the veteran striker is still very fit as he proved by playing three games in a week at the European Championships this summer. A wise head could be just what’s
needed at White Hart Lane, whether its coming off the bench or playing from the start
during a jam-packed week. I think Henrik could be a useful addition for half the season. Do Tottenham fans believe that Larsson could do a good job on a short-term contract at the club?

Morten Gamst Pedersen is set for a shock January move away from Blackburn. (Daily Mirror)
The 27 year old Norwegian international was linked with loads of massive
sides, including Tottenham, a year or two ago but has been a bit off form since and had a few niggling injuries but still has a lot to offer and if Paul Ince is looking to cash in or offload the left winger then Harry Redknapp should really think about
making him a Spurs man. Whilst the much publicised left sided problem area at the club isn’t
as drastic as many would have you believe Pedersen is the kind of creative talent that could do wonders at White Hart Lane. The excellent set piece taker weighs in with his fair share of goals which is something the north London club has been sorely missing of late so it could well be an £8m well spent if they think about
another move for the tricky winger. Do Tottenham fans think Morten would be a wise purchase
or would it be a season or two late?

Quotes from Ajax manager are sure to get lots of people’s hopes up as a queue forms in the race for this Dutch goal machine!
Don’t forget to check out Online Football Manager!
Arsenal and Manchester City will be alerted to Ajax coach Marco van Basten’s comments about star striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who the Dutch legend admits will be hard to keep at the Amsterdam Arena, with a host of top European sides heavily linked with the Dutch International.
Ajax have made a slow start
in the Dutch Eredivisie and after being knocked out of the Champions League also lost their opening UEFA Cup Group match against Aston Villa on Thursday. With van Basten fully aware that the current plight of Ajax does not bode well for keeping their talisman in Amsterdam.
Van Basten said
: “He is a good centre forward and he has a good nose for goal.
“He has a good left foot and right foot and is a clever player. I hope he’ll
join us for a long time but every year it is becoming more difficult to keep him.” (Premiershiplatest.com)
Whilst Manchester City have piles of cash Wenger should be able to guarantee Huntelaar Champions League football, something the 25 year old has had to do without for two seasons now. Arsenal have some talented front men already at the Emirates but with Adebayor’s summer antics still lingering they may well choose
to make a move for one of Europe’s hottest properties and Arsene is known to be a fan so I think this could be a move that’ll
be one to monitor come January, especially if Ajax are still struggling in the Eredivisie. Do Gunners fans think that Huntelaar could work well at the Emirates?

It’s happened!
Tottenham Hotspur have sacked coach Jaunde Ramos, the club has said
.
Spurs have also parted company with sporting director Damien Comolli. (BBC Sport)
Tottenham manager Juande Ramos and sporting director Damien Comolli have left the club, the Barclays Premier League side have confirmed.(Sky Sports)
So it looked on the car
ds but it does still seem very sudden but after the worst start
to a season in eons Ramos and Comolli have fallen on their collective swords! Is this a good thing? Will it result in an upturn in fortunes? And perhaps most importantly, who will replace the Spaniard at White Hart Lane? Who do Tottenham fans want to see as their new boss?
As the old say
ing goes, out with the old and in with the new. After sacking manager Juande Ramos, sporting director Damien Comolli and assistant boss Gus Poyet just hours ago, Tottenham have confirmed that the new regime at the club will start
now — and it will start
with the announcement of Pompey boss Harry Redknapp as manager!
“They spoke with Peter Storrie [Portsmouth chief executive] and he spoke with Daniel Levy, and I think they came to agree
ment where the club are actually playing £5milion in compensation which is a great deal for Portsmouth.
“But I think they needed the money, things are right but the club have been fantastic but we only get 19,000 – we tried to sell one more player during the window and in the end I guess they’ve
sold the manager.”
Redknapp admitted he couldn’t
turn down the chance to move to Spurs.
“It was a great opportunity for me, Tottenham are a great club – but I honestly loved, genuinely love my time at Portsmouth I’ve
never been happier – but Tottenham have come in and £5million is great for Portsmouth and I’ll
now see what I can do at Tottenham.”
He also confirmed that he’ll
be Tottenham boss before their match with Bolton and he’s
likely to pic
k the side, alongside car
etaker management team Clive Allen and Alex Inglethorpe. (Sky Sports)
What a shocker! I’m not sure anyone — including Spurs supporters for that matter — saw this one coming! Pompey were currently making a move up the table with Defoe and Crouch leading the way. But apparently the draw of helping Tottenham stay up was too much for ‘Arry to pass on. He’s a risk taker, and at the mom
ent that’s exactly what Spurs need.
Word coming from Sky claims Pompey will get £5milion in compensation for the chance to have Redknapp on the sidelines tomorrow against Bolton. I’m sure all Spurs supporters are wondering who he’ll pic
k for a start
ing XI!
Will Bentley be back on the pitch? Will he sell any of the summer signings in January? All we do know at the mom
ent is that the Tottenham rollercoaster will continue to rage on for the foreseeable future.
It is very rare that a day will go by without a significant news story breaking about the English Championship. It is a very exciting league with numerous twists and turns throughout a season. With this in mind, perhaps it is no surprise that Queens Park Rangers have sent their manager Iain Dowie packing after just 15 games in charge.
The former Charlton boss replaced Luigi de Canio in May and leaves the club with them sitting 9th in the table. I suppose he has simply been a victim of a new board that anticipate
s too much too soon. The QPR owners would have been anticipating
the team to be firing on all cylinders by now and the football odds made them one of the favourites for promotion.
The reality is though, that Dowie’s team had only recorded one win in their previous six games and although
they find themselves just one point off the play-offs – this recent run of form was obviously not good enough for the relevant people. This is rather harsh, but with Roberto Mancini being lined up as a replacement, I guess Dowie never had much of a chance. The QPR owners want their type of people in charge. Perhaps Dowie was never actually in their long term plans.
The interesting point to be made of all this though, in my opinion, is how it will affect the other teams vying for promotion. They would have all been anticipating
an onslaught from QPR at some stage, so will that still be the case? Well, first of all, let’s look at the top three team’s current situation and see if there’s
any room for a rejuvenated QPR to fit into.
1st (27 points) – Birmingham: Currently top of the table, the Blues seem the most comfortable of the top teams and are grinding out 1-0 wins frequently. When they find their ideal
form, they could really push on.
2nd (25 points) – Wolves: Mick McCarthy’s side have suffered a rather worrying dip in form. In fact, they’ve
lost three out of their last four games. The latest was a 5-2 drubbing at Norwich and they’ll
be start
ing to doubt their credentials.
3rd (23 points) – Reading: The most significant factor about Reading is that their home form is so good. They have won every game at the Madjeski so far and have scored 21 goals along the way. Many football bets are being placed on this continuing as well.
So, with 18 points currently on the board, QPR have some catching up to do if they’re
to match their pre-season ambitions of automatic promotion. As much as Dowie’s men were still in with a shout, the board obviously wanted to act before it was too late. Had they continued in the same vain for the next few weeks, automatic promotion would have been very unrealistic.
As it is though, the likes of Birmingham, Reading and Wolves will all be interested to see a) who QPR appoint and b) whether they start
to show the form many anticipate
ed them to. Because, everything think about
ed, the top teams in the Championship will still be wary of QPR and their potential January spending power.

Michael Owen could be making a move away from the Premier League as early as January after hearing that his friend, David Beckham, would be returning to the European football stage. The two could be together soon enough!
Michael Owen could follow David Beckham to Italy by joining Genoa on a free transfer reports Calciomercato.it
Owen has never fulfilled his potential at Newcastle since arriving in the North East three years ago.
Calciomercato.it claims sources in England have revealed the former Anfield hero is being head hunted by Genoa and he’s
looked upon as a potential strike partner for the outstanding Diego Milito. (Tribalfootball.com)
Becks and Owen on the same squad? Wouldn’t that be something to see! It would be even better if the two of them could actually be on the pitch at the same time. But think about
ing Owen’s recent injury problems, that could prove to be nothing more than a dream. Regardless, it looks like Owen will be looking for greener pastures soon enough!
It’s no secret that to be a good football club, you need money to survive. For most of the Premier League, money doesn’t seem to be a problem. Most clubs seem to have enough to bring in the ideal
football players in the world and the drop of a hat. But while some clubs may look good on the outside when they hit the pitch, their financial situation might not be all candy and roses.
Enter Liverpool and Everton. The two clubs look great on the outside; but if you take a deeper look at their finances, you can see that they both could really use some Middle East money to get back on track. After reading about Charlton’s recent snub by a Dubai consortium, Liverpool and Everton might have to rethink about
the chances of a white knight coming along to save them in the near future.
Since their interest in Charlton was announced almost
two weeks ago, Zabeel have been linked with several Barclays Premier League clubs, including Everton and West Ham, but they’ve
promised the Addicks they don’t
plan to invest in English football in the ‘foreseeable future’.
They also insisted the decision to withdraw their £20million offer to purchase
the south east London club and wipe out its debts of £20m hadn’t
been taken as a result of anything they discovered during the due diligence period.
Instead, they blamed they current financial climate and a desire to expand their interests in the United Arab Emirates. (Daily Mail)
The worldwide credit crisis is taking its toll on everyone. With the drop in oil prices over the last two months, it would now appear from an outsiders perspective that the UAE could be struggling in their own way. Instead of throwing money away on a English football club, some of the heavy hitters are now rethink about
ing the move. That could spell certain doom for Liverpool and Everton since both are looking towards the Middle East for a new start
.
AC Milan are known for the fantastic; so who could blame them for going after David Beckham for a couple of months? The move should help bolster a club that’s fighting for top four Champions League football. But while the move seems good on the outside, you’ve
to wonder if AC Milan have any ulterior motives behind the move?
Milan’s vice president, Adriano Galliani, was in buoyant mood at Malpensa airport this morning as his club prepared to fly out for their Uefa Cup fixture at Heerenveen. “Will Beckham come? I would think so; and he’ll
be at Milan for some months before returning home. But he has definitely chosen Milan.”
Galliani denied that the principal attraction of signing Beckham – whom they offered terms to when he left Manchester United in 2003 – was as a marketing tool. “Our squad is ultra-competitive but Beckham offers something different and intriguing. Milan isn’t
in the business of pic
king up poster-boys – we’re
very proud of what we’re
trying to do.” (Telegraph)
Seria A football has been struggling for the worldwide spotlight for a couple years, as the Premier League took the crown as the top football league in world. Could the Milan club be hoping that Beckham brings them some new coverage? Whilst Galliani say
s no, one can’t help but wonder if Beckham’s marketing ability
made this a match made in heaven.
Ever since Wayne Rooney came back from his recent injury, there seems to be a new skip in his step that many are noticing. Celtic manager Gordon Strachan can be counted amongst the many that now find Wayne Rooney unplayable. There’s
n’t a better compliment in football than this one!
Celtic held their in the early stages before United, inspired by the irrepressible Rooney and the improving Dimitar Berbatov, took control.
“Rooney is unplayable – we tried everything, but he turns this way and does that,” Strachan said
. “When you see players like that you just have to hold your hands up and say
, ‘I’ve seen a world-class player.’” (Telegraph)
That’s high praise from a manager that doesn’t give out compliments lightly. But Strachan’s right. Whilst Wayne might not have a set place on the field, he’s shown everyone around him that you can literally put him anywhere on the pitch and he’ll find a way to succeed.
