Tottenham missed out on the capture of Andrei Arshavin during the summer transfer window, but the player’s agent has suggested a deal could be revived in January.
Spurs’ pursuit of the Russian schemer was one of the talking
points of the summer, but the move failed to materialise as the two clubs couldn’t
agreeon a deal.
It is believed they were very close in terms of a fee and the Russian’s agent has suggested the deal has been merely shelved.
“Zenit weren’t
happy with the payment structure of the transfer fee over several years and the fact Tottenham resumed talks so late,” Arshavin’s agent Dennis Lachter told Sovietski Sport.
”They came back at the dawn of the closure of the Russian transfer window and that wouldn’t
have left Zenit enough time to find a replacement.
”However, (Zenit president, Alexander) Dyukov saidthat if Tottenham are still interested in purchase
ing Arshavin then we can revisit the subject when the winter transfer window opens in January.” (Setanta Sports)
No sooner has the transfer window shut, then rumours for January start
flying around. I guess it’s to be anticipate
ed, and this Russian ace was chased hard by Tottenham. This report seems to suggest that Arshavin may well join Pavlyuchenko at White Hart Lane early next year.
The £20m-rated Zenit man was said
to be on his way to north London when the St Petersburg side decided that the instalment plan for the payment wasn’t
to their liking, although
it was the usual way that clubs complete transfer fees. It’s interesting to note that Dick Advocaat’s side seem to have suffered greatly this season, as the reigning champions lie way back in seventh with more than half of the season finished
, so come January it will become all the more clearer that Arshavin’s side may not even be in a Champions League spot and that could well make this transfer all the more likely?
Do Spurs fans want to see Juande get his man in the next window, or would they rather just give up on the deal entirely?
